Death of a Skyline

A group of citizens lobbied to save the landmark Alberta Wheat Pool grain elevator, one of the defining features of Mayerthorpe’s landscape, from being torn down in 2003 - as thousands of others had been. This film documents those efforts while exploring the broader history and significance of the grain elevator.

Locked In

Ben Stookesberry and a group of kayakers attempt a first descent of the Beriman River in Papua New Guinea. The daunting 40km run is lined with many dangers and no way out but to ride out to the ocean. Follow them as they make the plunge into the unknown in this arduous but rewarding paddling experience.

The Frozen Titans

It’s a route that you cannot climb in summer and that you don’t really want to climb in winter: Helmcken Falls. But ice-climber Will Gadd knows that the technically challenging mixed route on the rear wall of the 141-metre waterfall can only be mastered at sub-zero temperatures, because that’s when the loose rock is literally frozen up by the spray. However, what works for the route doesn’t necessarily help the athlete. The centimetre-thick layer of ice which Will has to remove from his safety rope at regular intervals doesn’t really make it...

Box of Salvation

Cheryl Nasso struggled with anorexia for five years. At her worst, she weighed 85 pounds, was hospitalized, and went through 4 months of rehab. Just two years later Cheryl was one of only 50 women competing in the 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games, an international competition involving the fittest and strongest athletes in the world. Box of Salvation follows Cheryl as she trains for the competition while telling her story of adversity, loss and overcoming the worst to become one of the best.
