Nabat

The story is set during an upsurge in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and revolves around an old, sick ex-forestry worker and his wife Nabat, whose son has died in battle.

The Hostage

During the late 1980s and early 1990s the Armenian minority in Nagorono-Karabakh attempted to break away from Azerbaijan, one of the former Soviet republics. Overnight these former neighbors became enemies, and simple village folk were suddenly made hostages in a complex power game. A Man of the Third Day

The film tells the story of a man, who was in prison when the invaders occupied his native land. When he gets out from prison, he tries to find ways to visit his parents’ graves, which are located on the occupied lands now.

Bulaqistan

Residents are slowly leaving the village due to thirst. Only one family, aunt Nakhish and man Rahim, endured a thousand hardships to guard the grave of Allahverdi, their only child who died in the Karabakh war.

A Woman

A modern Azerbaijani woman’s life is non stop all day as she juggles traditional and secular roles, her life subsumed by service for others while rarely getting the respect she deserves. Throughout the film we see how things are changing in progressive Azerbaijan, and how some things don’t change; like her, it is a country at a crossroads of seeming contradictions. This is the story of "a" woman, elements of whom are universal.
