A story about the love and subsequent life story of agronom Elmer Oras and Margi Kaski and their son. The story has its origins just before the Winter War. After a brief encounter, both fell in love. As a result of this love affair, Margit gets pregnant Soon the war breaks out and Elmer has to go the front. As the war goes on, Elmer does not return from a patrol mission behind the enemy lines. After the war times are hard for Margit and his fatherless son.

The young Count Martin von Tandenskiöld who has returned from the war is forced into a battle with a Russian colonel after he harasses his bride Karin. Chased by the Cossacks Martin escapes and joins the old wanderer. On the way Martin encounters adventures and beautiful women.

Tirlittan

Young Tirlittan gets rid of her family after being struck by lightning in her home. While looking for a new home, she meets a friendly policeman, a woman with goat, and a ringmaster with whom Tirlittan ends up performing in a circus.
