Thanks to his actions during a farm fire, the young and naive Dreas is appointed to the local fire department, which awakens various ambitions in him. Back in his village, he fails during a fire at the local bakery, where everything goes wrong. When Bas puts up the note Wanted: Man on the notice board of the local supermarket for his single mother, she does not know about it. The self-willed Bas tries to find a solution for the separation between him and his mother, who no longer knows how to cope with Bas' superstitious compulsions. And both are hydrophobic. Author Frank's debut novel is successful, but he needs the proceeds to pay off a debt and his girlfriend Mascha ends their relationship. He meets another woman, but he and Mascha also seem to make amends. These amorous vicissitudes give him inspiration for a new book, which will deal with eroticism in the Netherlands.
